Marc Mellits (born 1966) is an American composer and musician influenced by minimalist and rock music, and has been identified with the postminimalist stylistic trend. This record is about String quintet & trio chamber music commissioned by Le festival les Inouïes, created by La Filature Musicale in 2016 in Gosnay’s church, Haut de France, France. Recorded by Christophe Germanique with the composer. Musican from LA FILATURE MUSICALE are Helene Collerette, Ayako Tanaka & Sandrine Naudy violin, Téodor Coman viola, Fabrice Bihan & Nicolas Saint Yves cello. Tapas is a string trio played by LE TRIO A CORDES DE PARIS (Helene Collerette, violin, Téodor Coman viola, Fabrice Bihan cello).
La filature musicale and this project was created and conducted by Fabrice Bihan.

It all feels deceptively simple but I suspect a fearful complexity beneath the surface of Perich's work...the detailing is exquisite but the over-arching effect is monumental at times...like looking up in a cathedral. Architectural then, but perhaps not inhabitable...more of a place to gather for ritual? Then it all gets intimate (warm violins) and the piece exhibits huge levels of contrast!
